Behind the Book

Prime Time Focus host Alyne Ellis talks to Ms. Jo Umans the founder of Behind the Book.

Behind the Book, a nonprofit group with a mission to excite underprivileged students about reading, uses books about their own neighborhoods and life issues to engage kids. In several New York City public schools, the nonprofit reaches low-income children and teens by pulling authors into the classroom to lead fun and interactive curricula. At the same time Behind the Book gives K-12 students hope by building their literacy skills, it nurtures New York City's next generation of well read citizens.
