What issue is most important to YOU?

AARP Issues Poll

During the next few weeks, Senators McCain and Obama will be laying out their plans for the next four years in the 2008 Presidential Debates.  Do you feel like you have any idea how the Senators will break through partisan gridlock in Washington?  How about their specific plans for health care and long-term financial security?

AARP members submitted over 21,000 questions to the two Senators about these topics earlier this month.  It's clear that you want to hear some real answers on health care and financial security.  And yet coverage of these issues in the media is often overshadowed by partisan squabbling, or the scandals and gossip plaguing the campaigns.  We deserve better!

We want to know what you're really concerned about - without having to dig through the media spin.  Tell us what issue you care about by voting in AARP's poll today!

After that, make sure to visit our 2008 Voter Guide where AARP asked candidates key questions about the issues most important to our members and their families.  The questions are:

1) PRIORITIES: What will be your top domestic issue priorities if elected?  How will you work to break the gridlock to get things done on these issues?  Please list your top three domestic priorities.

2) SOCIAL SECURITY: Will you support or oppose a balanced Social Security plan to continue the program's guaranteed benefits for future generations?  Will you support or oppose diverting Social Security payroll taxes to fund individual retirement accounts?

3) ENHANCING RETIREMENT SECURITY: What options do you support to make saving for retirement easier for American families?  Do you support or oppose guaranteeing employees' access to automatic payroll deductions in the workplace to fund an IRA?  Do you support or oppose creating retirement accounts in addition to Social Security?

4) MAKING HEALTH CARE MORE AFFORDABLE: What policies would you support to make health care and health insurance more affordable and accessible for everyone?  What policies would you support to make Medicare more affordable?

5) LONG-TERM CARE: How would you shift long-term care services and financing so that people can afford to stay in their homes and communities as long as appropriate?

Candidates are allowed up to 125 words to answer each question, and AARP does not edit or modify the candidates' answers to our questions.  The voter guides are available for all federal and some state races, and will prove to be an invaluable resource for you and your family.
