Senator Toni N. Harp was elected last fall to her seventh consecutive term representing the residents of the 10th Senatorial District. She was reappointed to lead the budget-writing Appropriations Committee for a second consecutive term as Senate chair. The Senator also serves on the Executive and Legislative Nominations Committee and on the legislature’s Select Committee on Children.
During her tenure as State Senator, Toni Harp has championed many initiatives important to her constituents, including managed care reform, providing insurance for uninsured children, and advocating economic development for cities.
Senator Harp was recently appointed the Chairperson of the National Conference of State Legislatures’ standing committee on Health with responsibility for reviewing policy, coordinating lobbying strategies, and presiding over programs throughout the United States.
Senator Harp is currently employed as the Homeless Service Director at the Hill Health Center. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from Roosevelt University in Chicago, Illinois, and a Master of Environmental Design from Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut.
She is married to Wendell Harp, an architect, and she is the proud mother of three children—Djana, Jamil, and Matthew.
