Smart growth planning asks and answers the question, “How and where should we grow?” Following the success and demand of Getting to Smart Growth: 100 Policies for Getting to Implementation, this new report produced by the Smart Growth Network provides 100 more ways to examine key smart growth principles, and offers new policy recommendations to encourage communities to incorporate smart growth practices in their planning efforts. It is more specific than the first report and incorporates case studies and individual programs, along with practice and finance tips. Community planners and local leaders can use the report to further broaden their pool of smart growth resources for local implementation.

Smart growth planning efforts have dramatically risen in recent years, with 26 percent growth occurring in a one-year span. The reason is that it fosters economic and residential development to create healthy, accessible, and walkable communities. This report highlights ways that livability and sustainability strengthens communities in general.
