Q: Peter,
My wife and I are planning a trip to the Grand Tetons. We want to hike, etc. Any recommendations on where to stay besides a tent? We are looking for a cabin or a hotel.
–Louis, Summit Hill, Pa.
A: If you are looking to stay close to the Grand Tetons but don’t wish to stay in a tent, you have quite a few options.
At the lower end of the price scale is the Jackson South/Snake River KOA Kampground, which is located not far from the southern border of Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming. This campground offers cabins and RV and tent sites. It is only a 15-minute drive to Jackson Hole’s restaurants and civilization. The cabins, which overlook the Snake River, have either one or two rooms and average about $72 a night. The campsite has free wireless Internet, a snack bar, and other amenities.
Then there’s the Flagg Ranch Resort, located at the northern end of Grand Teton National Park, just below the southern entrance to Yellowstone National Park. Flagg’s cute log-cabin rooms have either two queen-size beds or one king-size bed, a private bath, a telephone, a coffee maker, and a patio. Facilities in the main lodge include a restaurant, a pub, and a gift shop. Prices start at $179 per night, or at $189 for rooms with a view.
A pricier but more atmospheric option is the Jenny Lake Lodge, which is situated alongside Jenny Lake inside the Grand Teton National Park. A 4-diamond eco-resort, the rustically elegant lodge offers daily breakfast, five-course dinners, and access to horseback rides and bicycle rentals. Single-room cabins, duplex cabins, or suites with wood-burning stoves are available, from between $585 and $760 per night.
