Music for Grownups

Veteran music writer and critic Richard Gehr offers the latest music news and reviews twice weekly. Read his interview with Ramsey Lewis.

Listen in as composer, master pianist, and jazz legend Ramsey Lewis talks to--and plays for--host Mike Cuthbert in this special edition of Prime Time Radio.

Lewis began taking piano lessons at age four. He was 15 when he learned jazz by playing in Wallace Burton's band, then captivated fans in 1956 with his trio's first album, Ramsey Lewis and the Gentlemen of Swing. AARP is sponsoring his 2008 "Ramsey Lewis and the Legends of Jazz" tour. Lewis also hosts a jazz program on PBS, as well as the nationally syndicated morning drive-time "Ramsey Lewis Morning Show." He is artistic director of the Ravinia Festival and helped organize its jazz mentor program. He also serves on the board of Chicago's Merit School of Music.
