About Movies for Grownups
Source: AARP.org | | March 9, 2005
Despite Hollywood's infatuation with youth, half of movie tickets are bought by people over 30. Now there's a radio program that focuses exclusively on films created by and for this too-often forgotten age group. This radio version of Movies for Grownups is a spin-off of the popular feature of the same name in AARP The Magazine.
"Youth-oriented movies make or break themselves on their opening weekends," says host Bill Newcott. "But three of the highest-grossing movies of all time, the grownup-oriented "My Big Fat Greek Wedding," "Seabiscuit," and "A Beautiful Mind," never reached number one at the box office. How did they manage that success? It was thanks to mature audiences, who kept those movies in the theaters for months."
These two-minute radio spots present previews of upcoming movies, reviews of current theatrical and home video releases, plus interviews with filmmakers whose work reflects the hopes, dreams, and experience of older moviegoers.
