AARP Radio: Snowstorms
By: Prime Time Radio | Source: AARP.org | December 2008
AARP's Alyne Ellis recounts some of the most memorable snowstorms of the past three centuries.
Snowstorms have been forces to reckon with throughout history. Similar to today's hurricanes, some blizzards even received names. The formidable "Washington and Jefferson" snowstorm of 1772, for example, trapped both founding fathers in their homes for two weeks and stopped the mail for five.
With the arrival of the snow plow in the 1920's, winter life got much easier. By the time Bing Crosby was crooning about a "White Christmas" two decades later, our attitudes toward snow had certainly warmed.
