AARP and the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights have teamed up to bring you Voices of Civil Rights — a collection of thousands of stories from people of all ages and ethnic backgrounds.

On August 3, Voices of Civil Rights launched a nationwide bus tour to collect unrecorded memories of the civil rights era as well as stories about the ongoing quest for freedom and justice. Ultimately, the Library of Congress will serve as the official repository for this historic collection.

The Voices of Civil Rights Tour will be in Milwaukee October 3, from 2 to 5 p.m., at the Wisconsin Black Historical Society & Museum, located at 2620 W. Center Street.

Voices of Civil Rights comes as America observes the 50th anniversary of the landmark decision in Brown v. Board of Education and the 50th anniversary of Rosa Parks' refusal to move to the back of a bus in Montgomery, AL (Dec. 1, 2005). We are committed to honoring these historic events by preserving the voices of those who took part.

The goal is to collect and preserve thousands of firsthand accounts of the Civil Rights Movement as a living memorial to those who lived through that era and as an educational resource for future generations. We will share these compelling stories with the world via the Internet and print and broadcast media.

Your story will be preserved in a historical archive on the Voices of Civil Rights Web site and may appear in other media outlets. Stories will be accepted through 2004 and beyond. The most interesting stories focus on one experience told in 500 words or less. We prefer original, untold stories and cannot pay contributors for their stories.

Leave your legacy and be part of history.

You may submit your story in person at the October 3 event in Milwaukee, online or you may write it down in 500 words or less and mail it to:
