AARP and the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights have teamed up to bring you Voices of Civil Rights—a collection of thousands of stories from people of all ages and ethnic backgrounds.

Voices of Civil Rights comes as America gets ready to observe the 50th anniversary of the landmark decision in Brown v. Board of Education (May 18, 2004) and the 50th anniversary of Rosa Parks' refusal to move to the back of a bus in Montgomery, AL (Dec. 1, 2005). We are committed to honoring these historic events by preserving the voices of those who took part.

The goal is to collect and preserve thousands of firsthand accounts of the Civil Rights Movement as a living memorial to those who lived through that era and as an educational resource for future generations. We will share these compelling stories with the world via the Internet and print and broadcast media. The official Voices of Civil Rights Web site will be launched in early 2004.

Your story will be preserved in a historical archive on the Voices of Civil Rights Web site and may appear in other media outlets. Stories will be accepted through 2004 and beyond. The most interesting stories focus on one experience told in 500 words or less. We prefer original, untold stories and cannot pay contributors for their stories.

Leave your legacy and be part of history. Submit your story online or send your letter in 500 words or less to:
