Half a century ago, a rabbi worked with an eccentric ethnomusicologist to record several albums of Jewish liturgical music. Now, the rabbi's grandson has made it his mission to protect the recordings, which have since been called remarkable historical specimens of Jewish musical tradition. Jon Kalish recounts the story.
