In 1959, while American farming flourished, Soviet fields were barren. Then Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev visited the farm of Roswell Garst in Coon Rapids, Iowa, to observe capitalist agricultural practices to see how they could be adapted to state-run farming in the Soviet Union.
