Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Doris Kearns Goodwin has written definitive studies of Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt, Lyndon Johnson, the Kennedys, and the history of World War II. This time she spent a decade focusing on Abraham Lincoln, producing an exhaustive book, Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln, which expertly explores the personality, ambition, and political skill of the enigmatic leader.

Goodwin joins host Mike Cuthbert for the first of a two-part conversation on Lincoln and how he successfully maneuvered the nation through the trying times of the Civil War.
