In 1968 a man named Douglas Engelbart created a small rectangular wooden box with a cable running to the computer. Since the cord looked like a tail and mice are known for scurrying along a surface, this new device quickly became known as a mouse.
Now thirty-five years later, the mouse is still in use, but it has taken on these forms:
- Ball mouse - The standard
- Wheel mouse -- Gives you extra functionality
- Optical mouse - Has greater precision, is easier to clean and requires no mouse pad
- Wireless mouse - Frees you from the wires
Don't use a mouse that is uncomfortable for you. There are many types of mice that can help with physical dexterity problems or can just make your mousing more comfortable. Those include:
- Track balls - easier to move
- Touch pads - use only fingertips instead of whole hand
There are also other specialty mice out there, such as:
- Super-mini mouse (Tiny mouse for portable computing)
- Mouse Caster (Mouse with radio)
