Michigan Moves 2008 Presidential Primary to January 15
Michigan recently jumped to the head of the presidential primary lineup, setting a January 15, 2008 primary election that could become a key battleground state for the Republican and Democratic nominations. The primary date change also means presidential candidates from both parties will, if they haven't already, be adding Michigan to their roster of campaign stops.
AARP Michigan volunteers and staff attended the 2007 Republican Leadership Conference on Mackinac Island on September 21st and 22nd, where they educated conference attendees about Divided We Fail issues. They also reinforced to presidential candidates, members of congress and state office holders that affordable health care and lifetime financial security are the two top domestic issues in the 2008 election.

Andy Farmer, AARP Michigan staffer, greeted Rudolph Giuliani with Divided We Fail materials on the docks at Mackinac Island, MI.

Careena Eggleston, AARP Michigan staffer, talked with John McCain. Upon seeing her Divided We Fail tee shirt, McCain exclaimed, "You guys are everywhere!"

Eric Schneidewind, AARP Michigan President, talked with Mitt Romney about Divided We Fail issues.

Agnes Johnson, AARP Michigan volunteer, had the opportunity to meet presidential hopeful Fred Thompson while staffing an informational table.
AARP Michigan is keeping a close eye on the candidates' campaign stop schedules to ensure that we have volunteers at as many of those events as possible, underscoring the core messages of the Divided We Fail campaign – demanding action and answers from our nation's leaders and common sense solutions that recognize individuals, business and government all have a role and a responsibility in securing health care and lifetime financial security.
