Marc Morial Signs Divided We Fail Pledge

Building a movement was not only described, but demonstrated when National Urban League President and CEO Marc Morial signed the Divided We Fail pledge at AARP's 2007 National Leadership Forum in Boston on September 5th.

In his remarks to the audience, Morial noted that "we want to join hands with you in a broader agenda," and he urged Divided We Fail to lead the way. Like the 20th century movements he described—the technological movement, to advance the American worker, and advance civil rights, this new movement for health care and financial security "has got to be based on a foundational sense of what's right and what's wrong," not on politics. He concluded his inspiring remarks to the audience with, "Divided We Fail. Together we must."

Established in 1910, The Urban League is the nation's oldest and largest community- based movement devoted to empowering African Americans to enter the economic and social mainstream. Today, the National Urban League, headquartered in New York City, spearheads the non-partisan efforts of its local affiliates. There are over 100 local affiliates of the National Urban League located in 35 states and the District of Columbia providing direct services to more than 2 million people nationwide through programs, advocacy and research.
