Divided We Fail Partners with Democracia USA

The Divided We Fail team in Florida recently found support in the South Florida Hispanic community in Democracia USA. Democracia USA is a national non-partisan civic engagement organization seeks to increase the prominence and participation of Hispanics in the American democratic process.

"We chose each other," Divided We Fail Field Coordinator Ivonne Fernandez said. "They liked what Divided We Fail stood for and agreed to help us continue our efforts to reach the Hispanic community. They gave us the opportunity to train them in the message and we've grown from there."

Throughout Hispanic Heritage Month, the two teamed up to collect an unparalleled 2,738 pledges over a four day span. Divided We Fail staff and Democracia members made a provided a visible Divided We Fail presence at the Hispanic Senior Day celebration at the Robert King Town Senior Community and the Passport to Health event at Florida Memorial University in Miami Gardens. They also teamed up for an interview on Hispanic Radio Station 88.3 FM.

Democracia also put Fernandez in contact with their Orlando chapter where she also conducted a Divided We Fail training in all Spanish.

"We had 18 Divided We Fail volunteers come out of this training," Fernandez said. "12 from Democracia and six more from the Hispanic Health Initiative where I got to talk with their president and founder."

Fernandez likes how fruitful the relationship has been so far. "We like working together and they have become ambassadors for us in the community," Fernandez said. "With our continued efforts we can have results like this and spread the Divided We Fail message."
