Once upon a time, railroads were the lifeline that strung our nation together. But as new technologies transformed our world, thousands of miles of track were left deserted and longing for use. Starting in 1986, abandoned railroad beds across the country began to be converted to hiking and biking trails in a growing movement based on exercise and green-living.
