Rich History of Helping Older Drivers
The AARP Driver Safety Program is the nation's first and largest refresher course for drivers age 50 and older that has helped millions of drivers to remain safe on today's roads. AARP has offered the course in the classroom for 25 years.
The course is designed to help you with defensive driving techniques, new traffic laws and rules of the road and many other common challenges that impact today’s drivers. Many states have a program which encourages older drivers to take a refresher course by mandating auto insurance discounts for those who sign up for an approved refresher course – Nevada is one of those states.
State Approves Shorter Course
Traditionally, the course was eight-hours long; often broken up into a two-day curriculum of four hours each. In the mid-90’s AARP began piloting the four-hour course in select states with some success. Over the years, the four-hour Driver Safety Course has been rolled out to an increasing number of states.
Recently, the State of Nevada approved the four-hour version of the course as one of the options for obtaining auto insurance discounts mandated by the state. So, in addition to saving you money, AARP is also working to save you time.
