En español | Thanks to people such as car buff Les Pence of Indiana, more than a half-million people refreshed their road skills in 2011 by completing an AARP Driver Safety course. Les is one of 7,000 volunteers who presented the classroom course nationwide.
AARP Driver Safety is designed to help people evaluate their knowledge of driving rules, understand normal changes in vision and hearing and review driver-safety strategies, such as using a three-second following distance behind another car.
2011 Driver Safety achievements included:
- Spanish-language courses were offered for the first time.
- To thank military veterans for their service, driver safety courses were made available free of charge during November.
- A generous $12.6 million grant to AARP Foundation, AARP’s affiliated charity, from Toyota, which will enable AARP Driver Safety to expand over the next three years.
