There’s No Place Like Home

AARP DC has invited Case Design Executive Vice President Bill Millholland to share a range of stylish ways — some inexpensive and easy, and some more complex — to make your home safer and more comfortable for all.

The principle on which he bases his tips and recommendations, known as Universal Design, is about creating a livable space for everyone, regardless of age, size, or ability. That means the dad pushing a stroller, the mom squinting at the newspaper in low lighting, the friend who uses a wheelchair, and anyone trying to open the door with an armload of groceries. Incorporating universal design into a home can be as simple as replacing traditional light switches with easy-to-use rocker-style switches, improving kitchen lighting, and installing easy-to-grip lever door handles. Best of all, when done well, universal design features and products make a home attractive and accessible for both residents and visitors to use.

We invite you to come learn more – and begin planning your own home makeover.
