Calling All Educators

If you’ve worked as an educator in any capacity or worked for a school or university, AARP Driver Safety has good news for you! In appreciation to all current and retired educators in Kansas and across the country, all AARP Driver Safety classroom courses will be available for only $5 in July and August.

Driver Safety volunteer instructors are located all over the state and look forward to having educators in their classes this summer—especially in July and August when classroom participation tends to be lower than normal. According to Julie Lee, vice president and national director of AARP Driver Safety, “In line with AARP’s tradition of supporting and celebrating teachers, this promotion allows us to recognize educators for their commitment to teaching and serving the community and at the same time increase classroom course participation during the summer months.”

The $5 course, which normally costs $12 for AARP members and $14 for non-members, will be offered to anyone who has been or is an educator, or has worked for a school district or university in any capacity. This includes people who are janitors, secretaries, aides, pre-school teachers, college professors, and parents who home-school their children. It does not matter how long someone was an educator, or if they have a teaching degree. It’s open to all ages as long as the participants have a valid driver’s license.

“On top of the discounted course, participants in Kansas may also eligible for a discount on their car insurance,” said AARP Kansas Director Maren Turner. “This is true for most people who take the course in Kansas and depends on their insurance company as to the amount of the discount.”

Course participants should consult their insurance agent for details.

Courses are available on a first-come, first-served basis and may not be available in all areas
