The 2012 Educator Appreciation Promotion is offered to those individuals who have been an educator, or have worked for a school district or university in any capacity. This includes custodians, secretaries, aides, pre-school teachers, college professors, guidance counselors, band directors, school nurses, Sunday school teachers, cafeteria workers and even parents who home-school their children. It does not matter how long someone was an educator, or if they have a teaching degree. Participants must fill out a coupon, which is available online www.aarp.org/educators or can be obtained at the time of class.
The Driver Safety course helps keep experienced drivers sharp by reviewing rules of the road, including recent changes to laws in Alabama. The course also teaches defensive driving techniques to accommodate for changes in flexibility, vision, hearing and reaction time. The course also covers changes in vehicles and how to operate more safely in today's increasingly challenging driving environment. The value is evident in the fact that 35 states mandate giving insurance discounts to drivers who have completed this course.
This course is all classroom with no tests, and is either an eight-hour session in one day, or two four-hour sessions on two days. Upon completion of the course, drivers receive a certificate, which may qualify them for an insurance discount and is good for three years in Alabama. The availability and amount of the discount depends upon the insurance company. Drivers must retake the class to continue their discount.
