Louis G. Colbert

Louis G. Colbert, cofounder of CEMA, is a member of the AARP Caregiving Advisory Panel.

Louis G. Colbert is the cofounder of the Center on Ethnic and Minority Aging (CEMA), a nonprofit organization formed in 1995 and based in Philadelphia. CEMA's mission is to improve health and social service outcomes that will benefit ethnic and minority individuals, families and communities as the population grows older.

Currently, Colbert is the director of Pennsylvania's Delaware County Office of Services for the Aging. In this capacity he administers an Area Agency on Aging that provides direct and contracted community services to more than 15,000 elderly residents of Delaware County. He has made presentations at numerous conferences such as those of the Pennsylvania Association of Senior Centers, the Aging in America National Conference, the National Council on Aging, and the National Caucus and Center on Black Aged.

He is the present chair of the Board of Directors of the American Society on Aging. In addition, he chairs the Cultural Diversity Advisory Committee of the Office of Long-Term Living within the Pennsylvania Department of Aging.

Colbert was recently recognized by Crozer Keystone Health System with the DNB First Loyalty to Service Award.

Active in the aging field for more than 35 years, he has been involved with various nonprofit community organizations such as Haddington Multi Services for Older Adults, the Philadelphia Brotherhood Rescue Mission and the Center for Advocacy for the Rights and Interests of the Elderly (CARIE).

Colbert has taught both undergraduate and graduate courses at Lincoln and Widener universities. He is particularly interested in effective leadership styles, community capacity-building initiatives and issues facing men as caregivers.

Colbert holds a B.A. in sociology from Morehouse College in Atlanta and an M.S.W. from Temple University's School of Social Administration in Philadelphia. He also completed the American Society on Aging's New Ventures in Leadership program.

Colbert is a native of Delaware County and currently lives in Garnet Valley.
