With over 22 million military veterans living in the United States, there is little to no publicity on the everyday struggles faced by their caregivers. They are tasked with the difficult chore of caring for their loved ones, and, more often than not, it is a full-time job often with no income.

Although the Department of Veterans Affairs offers certain benefits to military caregivers, a massive backlog of claims and little-publicized benefits have made this a cumbersome and drawn-out process. It’s no wonder that many of our wounded warriors and their families are now in a battle for benefits.
Lark McCarthy is joined by former North Carolina Senator Elizabeth Dole to discuss her new organization, Caring for Military Families, and its work to support veteran caregivers. We also meet Alan Alford, military veteran and the VP of Fighting for Our Heroes Foundation, and Debbie Burak, CEO and founder of VeteranAid.org.
This Inside E Street segment focuses on the present state of the VA’s benefits backlogs, as well as which benefits you might be eligible for, and how to obtain them.
