The federal government recently announced changes to reduce premiums and make it easier for Americans to enroll in the Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan (PCIP) – the new program created by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act to help uninsured people with a pre-existing condition get high quality care at affordable prices.

“The PCIP is a first step to help people with pre-existing health conditions receive the treatment they need,” said Robert Eppler, state president of AARP Nebraska. “In a little over two years from now, barring people from insurance coverage based on their health status will be a thing of the past.”
Today, Nebraskans with pre-existing conditions who have been uninsured for six months can apply for coverage through the PCIP, which is administered by the federal government in Nebraska. Here’s what you need to know:
