For the latest on changes to Medicare, you’ll want to listen to an information-packed, hour-long presentation from a recent statewide AARP teletown hall sponsored by the Iowa Insurance Division and AARP.

More than 21,000 AARP Iowa residents joined AARP State Director Kent Sovern and Iowa’s Senior Health Insurance Information Program experts Kris Gross and Patty Price to discuss changes to Medicare and what Iowa beneficiaries need to do to ensure they have the best Medicare coverage for their situation.

“AARP is pleased to collaborate with the Iowa Insurance Division and the issue experts at SHIIP to bring this timely, important information to members who were able to participate on the teletown hall, as well as to the thousands of members who can now benefit from listening to this instructional webcast,” said AARP Iowa State Director Kent Sovern. “Whether you are a Medicare beneficiary or caregiver for someone on Medicare, the information covered in this presentation can help Iowans take advantage of recent changes and get the most value from your Medicare coverage.”

Key topics covered in the webcast include new dates for 2012 Medicare Part D open enrollment, which is now from Oct. 15 to Dec. 7; tips on saving money on drug coverage; information on new Medicare preventive care services and advice on how to get extra help with Medicare drug costs.

If you have immediate questions or would like help navigating the Medicare system, especially with scheduling a Part D comparison before the Dec. 7th deadline, contact counselors with Iowa's Senior Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) toll-free at 1-800-351-4664 or via the SHIIP website.
