Dr. Robert Butler

Growing old with dignity

Dr. Robert Butler, the founding director of the National Institute on Aging and a pioneer in the field of gerontology,—who coined the term “ageism”—died of acute leukemia at age 83 on July 4th, 2010. 

One of the most respected gerontologists, Dr. Robert Butler turned around negatives associated with aging and fought to end discrimination against the elderly.
