Medicare Rx ― The New Law and You

Lead state and regional volunteers and staff, as well as AARP Board members, met at AARP Headquarters in Washington, D.C. during January to discuss the Medicare legislation with their peers from other states.

Their voices and energy, along with those of many other AARP volunteers, are critical in AARP's efforts to educate the public about this measure and engage the public to win additional legislation to make prescription drugs more affordable. Volunteers came away from the meeting with additional materials about the Medicare legislation and AARP's next legislative steps.

"I feel better equipped to provide leadership and support for these efforts," said Norma Wood, AARP Texas State Lead for Advocacy.

Between now and November 2005, when the first enrollment period begins, Medicare will provide information designed to clarify how the system works and to help beneficiaries make decisions and compare enrollment fees and discounts. For more details, go to Medicare online or call (800) 633-4227.
