Plan ahead if you want to change your Medicare drug plan. In fact, start now. Consider choosing and enrolling in a new Medicare drug plan by December 8th. Even though the open enrollment period—the period when you can switch drug plans or sign up for Medicare Part D—runs from November 15 to December 31, people who sign up earlier are less likely to have problems at the pharmacy when their coverage starts on January 1.
