There are limits to when and how often you can enroll in or change your Medicare drug plan. You can always switch Medicare drug plans during the Annual Coordinated Election PeriodNovember 15 to December 31 each year.
However, in certain circumstances, you may be able to enroll in or change your Medicare drug plan by using a Special Enrollment Period (SEP). A Special Enrollment Period is a period of time when you can enroll in or switch to a different plan that provides Medicare prescription drug coverage outside of the annual enrollment period (November 15-December 31).
The Part D Special Enrollment Periods chart(Adobe Acrobat required) by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, describes the different situations in which you may be eligible for a SEP. Something as common as a move or change of employer coverage could make you eligible. Check it out. p>
