The number of certified organic growing operations has nearly doubled since 2000 – from 6,592 to 12,941 in 2008. That number is impressive until compared with another statistic from 2008: Certified organic cropland and pasture amounted to about 0.6 percent of total farmland in the United States. As interest in organic food grows, the government has been focused on developing national certification standards. The interactive map shows how many and where those certified organic operations are.
