The National Prevention Council, a federal effort to shift the nation’s health care focus from sickness and disease to wellness and prevention, is releasing its National Prevention Strategy.

Dr. Regina Benjamin, U.S. Surgeon General, chairs the council. It’s made up of 17 federal departments and agency heads, which made recommendations on how to reduce preventable death, disease and disability in the United States.
Inside E Street’s Lark McCarthy talks with Dr. Benjamin about the challenge of changing the culture from treatment to prevention. Efforts are already underway in communities throughout the country to implement prevention strategies to improve the health of their citizens.
