The Department of Health and Human Services (DHSS) will conduct two Community Ambassadors Trainings in Kansas City on Oct. 28 and Nov. 18.
The two-hour training session will be facilitated by Kit Wagar, Affordable Care Act Outreach Specialist for the DHSS-Region 7. Both trainings will be held at the Mid-America Regional Council (MARC) in the Rivergate Building at 600 Broadway. Accessible parking is adjacent to the facility and is free.

According to Wagar, each two-hour training is a comprehensive overview of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) which was passed into law March 23, 2010. The training will give individuals new tools and information to help explain the law in large and small groups; learn messaging techniques that help people understand how the law will really affects families; and learn about resources to help separate myths from facts.

Wagar explained that areas of focus will be dictated by the composition of the audience. The first training is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 18, 2011, and will offer an overview of the law, but will target seniors who are very interested changes to Medicare and Medicaid. The second training, scheduled for Nov. 18, will include information on the new consumer protections, and how families and individuals will get affordable health insurance. Other focus areas are how the law will affect small businesses and those living in rural area.

Wagar stated that training is available for groups of 20-25 in Missouri communities. To arrange a training session in your area, contact Adele Hughey at the DHSS Region 7 office, 816-426-2824.

The two upcoming Community Ambassador Trainings are sponsored by the Affordable Care Act (ACA) Education Group which is based in Kansas City.

Special Note: The AARP Missouri Speakers Bureau, “Speak Out!” also offers a free education presentation titled “Health Care Law 101: What’s in it for You Today” in select areas of the state.

To see if a speaker is available in your community, send an email request to aarpmo@aarp.org.
