AARP Oklahoma Works with SHIP Program to Answer Health Law Questions

AARP Oklahoma worked with the Oklahoma Senior Health Insurance Counseling Program (SHIP) to answer questions about the new health care law during a phone bank held July 1 on KJRH-TV in Tulsa.

Volunteers, including members of the AARP Oklahoma Executive Council and state staff, answered approximately 175 calls during the 5 and 6 p.m. newscasts.

Oklahoma State Insurance Commissioner Kim Holland was a special guest at the event. Commissioner Holland took time to help answer questions during the event.

According to the Oklahoma Insurance Department, SHIP is a non-profit organization helping to inform the public about Medicare and other senior health insurance issues. SHIP provides counseling on Medicare, Medicaid, Medicare supplements, Medicare Advantage, long-term care, and other related health coverage plans for Medicare beneficiaries, their representatives, or persons soon to be eligible for Medicare.

SHIP can be contacted toll free by calling 1-800-763-2828.

Additional information on the health care law can also be obtained from AARP online aarp.org/getthefacts or by calling the state office at 1-877-295-7277.
