Advancing Health in Rural America: Maximizing Nursing’s Impact
June 13, 2011
This forum explored the contribution nurses make to improving health care in rural America, where a shortage of providers limits access to primary and preventive services, reduces consumer choice and can raise costs.
Held in collaboration with the National Rural Health Association and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the forum focused on the recommendations of the recent Institute of Medicine (IOM) report, The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health.
Policy experts, thought leaders and key stakeholders discussed problems facing rural health care, highlighted cutting-edge rural health models making a difference, explored state and national nursing-based solutions, and discussed policy implications for state and federal policymakers.
The Honorable Mary Wakefield, PhD, RN, FAAN Administrator, Health Resources and Services Administration, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services delivered the keynote speech. See a video of her speech.
