Fat2Fit Challenge Winners

— John Chiasson

Name: Diane Wetmore

Home: Charlestown, Ind.

When I started the summer 2010 Fat to Fit challenge, I weighed 303 pounds (I am 5' 3" tall). I was on medications for Type 2 diabetes and hypertension, and also on pain management drugs due a spinal fusion.

I have four grandkids I wanted to see grown, so I knew I had to get serious about my health. Fat to Fit group participants have been instrumental in keeping me motivated.

So far I have lost 85 pounds, and I hope to drop another 85. Since I joined the group, I have been able to stop my diabetes medication and cut my blood pressure drugs by three-quarters.

I work out at the local gym six days a week, doing a mix of cardio, strength training and stretching, and take water aerobics twice a week. The water aerobics is my reward for going to the gym. I have motivated four of the people who take water aerobics with me to join the gym. It feels wonderful to be able to help others achieve their goals!

My food intake consists of 1,200 to 1,800 calories a day and includes a lot of raw or minimally cooked vegetables. I limit my carbohydrate intake to help manage my diabetes.
