It is a misnomer that diabetes is a disease associated with the elderly. According to the American Diabetes Association 25.8 million children and adults have diabetes, while 1.9 million, aged 20 and older were diagnosed last year.

“The reality is, it can occur at any age with no-visible symptoms,” says Dr. Bill Releford, founder of The Black Barbershop Health Outreach Program. That’s why he and former NBA star, Earl “The Pearl” Monroe (who’s partnered with Merck) are educating the public about the prevention and symptoms of a silent killer, diabetes.
