Free therapy for patients recovering from a stroke

There are more than 6 million stroke survivors living in the United States. But for many of these victims, the high cost of care can bring their recovery to an abrupt halt. Healing a stroke-damaged brain takes time and expensive therapy, but when insurance money runs out too soon, the patient never fully heals.

Enter speech therapist Darlene Williamson. She started the non-profit Stroke Comeback Center, a privately funded rehabilitation center that works with stroke victims when their benefits run out. Through constructive group sessions, cutting-edge technology and creative lower-cost therapy regiments, the center helps patients suffering from aphasia rewire their brains and their lives.
