Once upon a time, when you wanted to know if you had an ailment it meant a time consuming and costly trip to the doctor. But now there’s a growing trend towards do-it-yourself tests that are helping both doctors and patients.
 
While you’re probably familiar with pregnancy tests and blood-sugar monitors used by diabetics, you’ve likely not heard of a new in-house tool that could potentially save your life. It’s a screening that begins when patients spit into a tube and send it off to a genetics lab. After close examination, the results can predict the likelihood of a patient getting a whole range of life-threatening conditions including heart attacks, Alzheimer’s and certain types of cancer.
