AARP Spends Evening with Colorado Public Television

Not even icy temperatures could keep a hand full of AARP Colorado volunteers from helping Colorado Public Television, Channel 12, with fundraising efforts earlier this month.

Phil Hernandez, Pat McClory, Gary and Janet Bugg, Darryl Boyles and staffer Angela Cortez braved the cold Dec. 1 and spent the evening taking pledges over the telephone for the public television station. Hernandez made the trip from his home in Boulder in order to help the station, located in the Five-Points Denver neighborhood.

“I think it shows the dedication of our volunteers,” Cortez, Colorado’s communications director, said. “Channel 12 has always been a friend of AARP Colorado. We help each other out in a number of ways, but to see so many people agree to volunteer and then actually show up to help another organization was so gratifying and proves what we in the Colorado office already know: Our volunteers are the best, most dedicated and giving people we know and we’re in awe of them on an on-going basis.”

Throughout the evening the camera cut to the AARP volunteers, who proudly wore red AARP T-shirts. At one point, volunteer Gary Bugg was interviewed on camera. He talked about his volunteer experience with AARP. Cortez also received some camera time to discuss AARP’s mission and vision.
