'Live, Learn and Connect' in Your Community this February

Did you know AARP has a network of resources to help caregivers struggling to care for their aging loved ones? Do you know how your health insurance options have changed in the last year? Are you looking for the right program to devote some volunteer time?

Join AARP Oregon staff, volunteers, other members and caregiving experts for a free and fun workshop in your community to learn the answers to these questions and much more. Get to know staff and fellow members, while hearing updates on AARP programs and ways to get involved in your community, in Oregon or nationally. The community forums also offer a way to share your top priorities and concerns with AARP and local partners.

AARP Oregon Director of Public Outreach Joyce DeMonnin will cover healthy aging and highlights of what you need to know about the new health care law and how it affects your health and wallet. Learn tips and resources about caring for your aging loved one from nationally know experts on aging and caregiving like Dr. Vicki Schmall.

“We often hear from members that they want to know more about AARP in their own community and how to get involved. Hundreds of members have told us this interactive program was just what they needed to feel more connected to AARP in our state,” DeMonnin said. “It's fun, educational and a chance to meet new people.”

AARP Member Joan James recently moved back to Oregon from Pennsylvania and attended the “Live, Learn and Connect” forum in Eugene to find out what was going on locally. According to James, AARP made sure to meet a variety of needs, whether informational or social.

“I thought the event was well done, from the lovely breakfast to the excellent speakers. I was pleased to learn about the local Community Action Teams and am looking forward to working with them,” said James.

There will be light refreshments, door prizes, a resource packet for each attendee and a Question and Answer session with the experts. Bring your questions, your curiosity and your friends to this fun and informational forum with AARP. After all, you’re never too old to live, learn and connect!
