AARP’s Delaware Executive Council is a team of volunteer leaders who bring a variety of skills, experiences and backgrounds to this state leadership team. Beginning with AARP’s founder Ethel Percy Andrus, the value of volunteer contributions has held a special place within the structure of AARP. Under the guidance of State Director Lucretia Young and volunteer State President Jeanne Nutter, the Council is a microcosm that represents AARP membership in Delaware.
Strategically, the Council helps shape AARP as an influential power in the Frist State. They are leaders of change and aim to influence the future. Their input is sought in planning state activities each year, and they partner with state office staff to help develop, monitor and implement the state’s plans for the year.
Members of the Executive Council are chosen for their range of skills and for their geographic, ethnic and gender diversity. They can leverage their lifetime of connections and contacts in the community to help drive issues that affect AARP members. They are experts on a range of topics and serve as spokespersons in the community and with news media or for television and radio interviews. Perhaps most importantly, they provide guidance and support for hundreds of volunteers who are active in AARP programs such as Chapters, Tax Aide, Driver’s Safety, and others.
Delaware’s current Executive Council has seven members:
Lucretia Young, AARP State Director
Jeanne Nutter, AARP State President
Dennis Christie
Guillermina Gonzalez
George Meldrum
Judith Taggart
John Walsh
Our newest members, Judith Taggart and John Walsh, will be featured in upcoming issues of this AARP Delaware E-newsletter.
