This sentiment embodies the spirit of the Andrus Award and of Hoggard’s service.
She volunteers at Seekhaven, a women’s shelter in Moab, mentors children at the local elementary school, oversees the recycling program at the Grand Center, assists the homeless population of Moab, volunteers as a hospice workers, and volunteers to Moab’s many arts and music festivals.
She has contributed over 5400 volunteer hours to these and other causes over the last several years, despite having severe rheumatoid arthritis. She almost lost her life in a car accident over 20 years ago, yet scheduled the many surgeries necessary to recovery around her volunteer time. Hoggard truly serves as an inspiration in her community and for volunteers everywhere.
Lynn Miller received a Lifetime Achievement Award for his incredible service and generosity to those in need. Miller himself was orphaned at age three and was raised in foster homes that were often abusive; he overcame these and other personal hardships to devote himself to helping at-risk youth.
He has personally donated money, furniture, and food to people struggling with poverty around the world, in addition to donating his time for the Hurricane Senior Center and Hurricane Rehabilitation Center. His work with Dixie Care and Share embodies AARP’s “Drive to End Hunger” mission by helping those in need of food.
