Volunteers with AARP Arizona, the All Arizona School Retirees Association and the Hartford Insurance helped out at the Society of St. Vincent de Paul in Phoenix on September 14 as part of AARP’s National Day of Service.

Every year AARP holds a national day of service in which staff and volunteers join in various community service projects throughout the country.  The event is tied in to AARP’s national Create the Good initiative which encourages people to give back to their community.

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is an international non-profit organization dedicated to serving the poor and providing others with the opportunity to serve. Programs there include services for the homeless, medical and dental care for the working poor, charity dining rooms, thrift stores, a transitional housing shelter and general assistance for individuals in need.

AARP Day of Service volunteers helped prepare food in the kitchen, processed clothing and other donations as well as helped out with fall decorations for local area school children who frequent the center.

Find out more about helping with community service projects through AARP’s Create the Good initiative.
