AARP Maine has many volunteer opportunities to offer. This is a great time to join one of our exciting teams and lend your talent and skills to a great cause: helping others. You will receive excellent training and we believe you will find your time with us to be rewarding and enjoyable. Take a look at the four following opportunities and see which one might be the best match for you. We are happy to help you get started.
Volunteer Community Medicare Advocate
If you have 4 or more hours per month to give and are willing to help Mainers understand Medicare and how to protect themselves from health care fraud, this could be the perfect volunteer position for you. Training is provided by your local Area Agency on Aging. Here’s what Ron King, a Senior Medicare Patrol Volunteer from Benton, has to say: “Helping Mainers understand Medicare and how to detect and report healthcare fraud is the most rewarding volunteer opportunity I’ve ever experienced.” Call 1-877-353-3771 for more information.
AARP Driver Safety Program
AARP’s course offers a convenient way for older students to take proactive steps towards improving their driving knowledge and skills. When you become an AARP Driver Safety instructor, you’ll teach others about such topics as:
- Managing blind spots and lane-changing tactics
- Tips to avoid tailgating practices
- Proper use of new technology in cars, such as anti-lock brakes and air bag safety
- The effects of taking medication and operating a vehicle
- Examination of cell phone use, eating as well as other distractions while driving

With the help of more than 550 volunteers, the AARP Tax-Aide program provides free tax preparation and assistance services to over 17,500 low and middle-income taxpayers in Maine. Special attention is given to clients who are 60 and older.
Volunteering with the AARP Foundation Tax-Aide program promises to be one of the most engaging and challenging activities you will ever undertake. Visit us online or call 1-888-227-7669 for more information.
AARP Maine’s Capitol City Task Force (CCTF)
Would you like to work with our advocacy team and help us engage our legislators at the state house and in our communities? Every week during the legislative session (January-June) our CCTF volunteers take the AARP message directly to state and federal elected officials by advocating for programs and the rights of older Maine citizens.
By working side-by-side with AARP, you will help us achieve great things in Maine. Together, our voice becomes stronger.
