Each year AARP designates one day as its Day of Service, a day for staff and volunteers to serve their communities in a variety of ways. This year, AARP’s Day of Service is Sept. 9 and on that day we will focus on hunger, particularly senior hunger. Of the 51 million Americans who face the threat of hunger, nearly six million are over the age of 60. In Kansas, more than 5 percent of seniors are at risk of hunger and 17 percent of Kansas residents of all ages reported they did not have enough money to buy food last year.
