Two years ago AARP Oklahoma set out to recruit an army volunteers from each of the state’s 77 counties. The AARP Oklahoma 770 Team was born with the goal of having at least 10 volunteers in each county.
Today, more than 400 volunteers in all parts of the state receive real-time updates via e-mail and traditional mail, participate in trainings and events and help influence state and federal lawmakers as issues arise.
Over the past year, 770 Team members have made telephone calls, sent e-mails and written letters to Oklahoma’s Congressional delegation on health care reform, attended a rally at the State Capitol after funding was cut to senior nutrition programs, the state legislature and on Capitol Hill and participated in month update calls hosted by the AARP Oklahoma staff. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
As we look toward 2010, more than ever, volunteers are needed to be part of the 770 Team!
You can do as little or as much as like—even if you just want to receive information, we are looking for AARP members from all walks to life to join the activities of YOUR staff office.
Make a resolution in 2010: join the AARP Oklahoma 770 Team! To join, e-mail: firstname.lastname@example.org or call the state office at 1-866-295-7277.
