School Playground Renovated as AARP Create the Good Project

AARP’s Create the Good effort helped build a preschool playground at an elementary school in Gila Bend, Arizona. AARP Arizona volunteer Virginia Brant, who was involved in a recent ribbon-cutting ceremony for the playground at Paloma Elementary School, says Create the Good means that all of the preschoolers at the school will now have a better area to play in because of it.

“It was really awesome to see the playground equipment for the kids. Now the little ones will have a great area to play in during recess,” said Brant. “This is a great example of what AARP’s Create the Good can do in a community of need.”

Brant traveled to Gila Bend from the Phoenix area to represent AARP Arizona, at the invitation of school officials to take part in an official opening of the preschool playground. The effort marked about a two-month construction period in which a new slide, wood-chip ground and other new play equipment was added to the playground.

In addition to being an AARP Arizona volunteer, Brant is also currently the president of the Westside Unit of the All Arizona School Retirees Association (AASRA). Brant, through her Westside Unit, partnered with AARP Arizona in bringing Create the Good to the Paloma School playground effort.

AARP’s Create the Good effort is about community service and improving the lives of people in need. Every day, people are raising their hands to give back to their communities. Whether tutoring a child, feeding the homeless or honoring veterans, your time and commitment make a world of difference.

If you are giving back to your community, AARP would like to recognize and support your good work with the Win & Do Good: Cabot Cruise Contest and Sweepstakes.

Share your inspirational story and you could be one of seven lucky winners* to win up to $5,000 for the charity of your choice AND an Alaskan Cruise celebrating your volunteer work, sponsored by Cabot Creamery Cooperative.
