AARP New York Recognizes Neal Lane with its Highest Honor

Neal Lane has been selected by AARP, the nonprofit membership organization for people 50 and older, to receive its Andrus Award, the association’s most prestigious and visible volunteer award for community service.

Lane, who is former director of the NYS Office for the Aging, has been a member of AARP’s New York Executive Council since 2007. In that volunteer role, he has lent his expertise and skills to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of New York’s long-term care delivery systems and ensure that New Yorkers have access to and choices about their health care as they age.

“Older New Yorkers and their families have benefited greatly from Neal’s passionate work on behalf of long-term care services that help them maintain their independence and preserve their ability to make choices about living their best lives,” said Joan Parrott-Fonseca, AARP New York State Director.

Lane is also a member of AARP’s National Policy Council, an advisory committee to the AARP board of directors that helps provide input of state long-term care issues and make national public policy recommendations.

“This award acts as a symbol to the public that we can all work together for positive social change,” said Parrott-Fonseca. “AARP has long valued the spirit of volunteerism and the important contributions they make to our communities.”

The AARP State Andrus Award for Community Service recognizes individuals who, through volunteer service, are significantly enhancing the lives of individuals age 50 or older. Recipients across the nation were chosen for their ability to enhance the lives of AARP members and prospective members, improve the community in or for which the work was performed, and inspire others to volunteer.
